Woerden’s cheese markets are widely known. During the cheese season you are welcome to visit our weekly Cheese Market Days, where we gladly introduce you to a variety of regional cheeses!
To keep history alive, we invite you to visit our annual Historic Cheese Market, where we will show you ancient cheesemaking techniques dating back to Roman times. On this particular day, you will see cheese carriages (‘kaasbrikken’) everywhere and farmers and their wives wearing typical Rhineland costumes. Furthermore you can enjoy traditional tug of war games and discover that the cheese has not lost its flavour over the years!

Cow Market Woerden is a unique folk festival and has been celebrated every year - since 1410 - on the Wednesday after October 20th.This is a unique national festival and it was placed on the Inventory of Immaterial Cultural Heritage Netherlands. During Cow Market, the beginning of autumn is celebrated and you can enjoy a great party, cow shows and a big market in the city center. The streets are filled with laughter and joy!
