Every year on the first Saturday of June
The Grass Cheese Day in Woerden is a tradition in Woerden, Cheese Town. On this festive day, the first grass cheeses of the year ánd a big 125 kg cheese are auctioned for charity. A real spectacle in which the entire city is involved!
In addition to the Cheese celebration and -experience, there are a variety of performances to see and activities to participate in. The program and time table is announced prior to the event.

Woerden turns yellow!
Woerden turns yellow during Grass Cheese Day. The Market Master will officially open the event at 11 am. Enjoy the cheese auction, entertainment, traditional horse and carriages, cheese carriages and much more... Directly after ringing the 'Kaasbel', the cheese examination by cheese expert Jos van Riet and the mayor Molkenboer takes place. Afterwards the cheese auction takes place. What amount will be paid for the cheese this year?

Cheese Tasting & Cheese Carriages
From 1 pm on, it is time for cheese tasting! Come and taste cheese at the pop-up museum, or take a ride in the cheese carriage! You can get off at one of the three stops, which are found at the junction Wagenstraat/Rijnstraat, juction Rijnstraat/haven and in front of the Stadshotel.

An authentic Cheese Experience!
The Cheese Girls walk around the market all day to let you taste cheese or to take a picture with you. They love to pose in front of the camera with you, holding the "yellow gold"! The "Cuddling Cow" is also present during Grass Cheese Day!
